You might have heard Pakistani people admire their food, daleem is one of those recipes. They make daleem in overnight, they stay conscious only to make this dish and serve it in the daylight. I was pretty impressed when I first heard this. I also wanted to know the ingredients and directions of this recipe. Why? because staying up for a night only to make this dish doesn’t it sound impressive?

Daleem (Haleem)

I found this dish well because it is made from legumes like split red lentil, split chickpeas, and split green gram. It is also made from porridge and as you know eating porridge in the morning is the greatest idea to start your day. Porridge is a light breakfast because it is low in calories and high in iron.

Fresh beef and yogurt are also added. Yogurt has many health benefits, it is also great for skin and hair. It has the solution to almost every problem.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Porridge
  • ½ cup Split chickpeas (Soaked)
  • ¼ cup Split green gram (Soaked)
  • ¼ cup Split red lentil (Soaked)
  • ¼ cup Rice (Soaked)
  • ½ cup White Lentil (Soaked)
  • ¼ cup Barely (Soaked)
  • Water as required
  • 2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 cup Oil
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • ½ kg Beef
  • 3 tbsp Red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp Coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 2-3 tbsp Garam masala
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • For Tarka:
  • 1 cup Oil
  • 1 large Onion

  1. Soak porridge, split chickpeas, split green gram, split red lentil, rice, white lentil, barely overnight.
  2. In a pan add all these and water and turmeric. Mix well. Bring it to boil, skin off the foam and the cover the lid and cook until all get tender. Then blend it well.
  3. In another pan heat the oil add onion, fry until golden brown. Then add ginger garlic paste. Cook for a minute Then add beef, cook for 3-4 minutes. (cover the lid and cook until it gets dry)
  4. Then add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt and cook for 3-4 minute, until oil separates, add yogurt mix it and cook for 2 minutes. Add water, cover the lid and cook until beef fully gets tender. Mash it well.
  5. Add cooked beef in Daal mixture and stir continuously for 45-50 minutes.
  6. Add garam masala, nutmeg and cook for 10 minutes.
  7. For Tarka: in a pan heat oil and then add onion, fry until golden brown. Take out the fried onion and keep it aside. Pour oil on Daal mixture and cook for 20-25 minutes.
  8. Serve with fried onion, ginger slices, green chili and chaat masala.
